Common side effects
Genital infections (e.g., candida), urinary tract infections (e.g., cystitis), frequent urination / increased urine volume, thirst, constipation, and genital itching
Serious side effects (rare but important)
Hypoglycemia / dehydration (which can progress to blood clots such as stroke) / ketoacidosis (which can occur even when blood sugar is not high) / pyelonephritis or a severe perineal infection (Fournier's gangrene) that can lead to sepsis
Stop the medication and seek medical care / contact our clinic immediately if:
- Intense thirst, greatly reduced urine, or dizziness (signs of dehydration) — drink fluids frequently
- Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain with deep breathing, or drowsiness/confusion (signs of ketoacidosis)
- Fever, pain on urination, or pain/swelling/redness of the genital area
- If you cannot eat properly due to fever, diarrhea, etc. (sick days), pause the medication and contact our clinic
For patients taking Canaglu: Overseas clinical trials reported an increased occurrence of lower-limb amputation and bone fractures. Contact us early if you notice foot pain, ulcers, or discoloration.
